This course is ideal for people who are interested in the craft of designing and making footwear and handbags. You will learn in a fully equipped leather studio with award-wining designers, who do not only teach, but also create some of the industry’s trendiest leather styles.
Students will learn all the traditional techniques of shoemaking, from the basic to high-level. In addition to various types of shoes, students can study shoes for specific necessities, such as shoes pursuing “simplicity and comfort”, “durability”, “functional shoes for feet with medical problems”, “elegance for parties”, etc. and acquire skills enough to start up their career as a shoemaker.
Students will create a collection of shoes with specific themes, such as specific age groups or market, selecting colours, textile, or designs to apply. Students will choose their topic, create shoe design plans, research various types of shoe designs, modern techniques, and special functions. The ultimate goal of the course is that each student will acquire enough skills to start working as a professional.
Students will study basic type shoe making, and then gradually challenge shoes with more complicated techniques, through making a pair of ladies pumps and a pair of stylish men’s shoes. The focus is placed on acquiring solid basic skills in all the steps of shoe making, in order to prepare for more advanced study.
Diploma students will also acquire general inter-discipline knowledge of art through basic art lessons (3D Drawing, Colour Theory, Art History, Basic Painting) and Art-Visits outside of the classroom, to cultivate their artistic sensibilities and global perspective as a designer and complete a season’s collection.
The most interesting part of all our courses is the Creative Entrepreneurship Program, which grooms and equips you with the necessary skills to start and successfully run your own design company after your training with us. You will be equipped with basic business skills such as: doing a feasibility study, writing a business plan, making projections, human resources management and book keeping. We also have a Micro-credit Facilitation Unit (MCFU) that helps our graduates write custom-tailor proposals for start-up loans from our partner financial institutions.
